Selby Cycling Club is proud to be taking over delivery of Selby Tandems, an inclusive cycling initiative designed to make cycling accessible to adults with disabilities. We are grateful to OpenCountry for the strong foundations they have built and look forward to continuing and growing this valued inclusive cycling programme.
Selby Tandems focuses particularly on supporting people with:
Visual impairments
Learning disabilities
Autism
Our volunteer-led social rides pair disabled riders (back riders) with experienced tandem pilots, creating a safe, supportive and enjoyable cycling experience for everyone involved.
As part of Selby Cycling Club, riders can enjoy our regular mid-week evening rides running from April to October, often featuring a relaxed pub stop for socialising and refreshments. It’s about more than cycling — it’s about community, friendship and shared experiences.
To help participants feel comfortable and confident, we offer:
A fleet of tandem bicycles
High-visibility jackets
Cycle helmets
Water bottles
When & Where?
Wednesday evenings, we meet at the Greyhound Pub in Riccall at 5:45pm to leave prompt at 6pm. Rides are often around 15 miles and can take upto 2 hours. If you would like to experience a tandem ride please contact us by email info@selbycyclingclub.co.uk so we can ensure that we have a bike and pilot available for you.
We are always looking for more volunteer tandem pilots & outriders to join the team.
No previous tandem experience is necessary — full training and support are provided. If you enjoy cycling and would like to make a real difference in someone’s life, we would love to hear from you.
Have a look at the manuals below to find out more about piloting or outriding.
