We run regular club rides every week to suit different abilities, rides at the weekend include a cafe stop. For details on all upcoming rides to see what we offer please see the calendar here.
We have a library of local rides that we use. They can all be found in the Selby Cycling Club "Ride with GPS" page here.
If you have the "Ride with GPS" app installed on your phone, the above link will take you to our Selby Cycling Club profile where you can see all of the club rides.
Guest riders are more than welcome to join us for 3 Sunday club rides before becoming a member (Non-members are not permitted on other rides due to insurance). Under 18's need written parental consent, under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.
In the first instance, please contact us by emailing info@selbycyclingclub.co.uk if you would like to join us for a ride or for more information.
We would ask you read our club ride etiquette information prior to arrival.
Please note: Ride categories and timings may change subject to weather and rider numbers on the day. In winter the number of groups and distances of rides are reduced.
A road worthy bike
A cycling helmet (mandatory)
At least one spare inner tube, tyre levers and pump (the ride leader will be happy to help you fix a puncture but may not have the correct size tube for your bike)
Food and drinks to keep you going. Always bring too much rather than too little. Flapjack, fruit loaf, Haribo, wine gums, fig rolls or cereal bars all work well
Wet weather clothing if required
Money for a café stop
During the winter season:
Lights are advisable when visibility may be reduced
Mudguards should always be used
Groups are based on ride style and sustainable effort, with speeds shown as a guide only. Conditions, terrain, and group dynamics will always affect actual pace.
Please choose the group that best matches your comfortable, sustainable pace.
Social Ride
Typically 12–14 mph
Relaxed, inclusive, no-drop riding with frequent regrouping. Suitable for newer or returning riders and those preferring an easier pace. These rides will have a ride leader.
Steady Ride
Typically 14–15 mph
Comfortable, steady riding with some regrouping. A step up from Social, offering more flow while remaining social and accessible.
Intermediate Ride
Typically ~16 mph
Continuous riding with limited stops. Suitable for riders comfortable sustaining a steady effort over longer periods.
Advanced Ride
Typically ~17 mph
Strong, sustained pace with minimal regrouping. For experienced riders comfortable riding at higher effort.
Performance Ride
Typically ~ 18 mph (or as agreed by the group)
Fast, training-focused riding with minimal stops. Riders should be confident and self-sufficient.
Important Notes
· These are group rides, and riders are expected to ride cooperatively as part of a cohesive group, supporting a steady and consistent group pace appropriate to the ride description.
· Riders should maintain a smooth, even effort and avoid unnecessary accelerations or changes of pace that disrupt group cohesion.
· Please choose the group that reflects your comfortable sustainable pace, not your maximum ability.
· If you are consistently riding at the top of a group’s range, consider moving up to the next group.
· Speeds are indicative only and not strict targets.
· Groups may vary depending on terrain, weather, and conditions.
