Selby Cycling Club was founded in 1923 and is one of the oldest sporting bodies in Selby District.

Over the decades Selby C.C. members have produced some excellent performances in road races, time trials and cyclo-cross events. One of the most notable was in 1963 when Ray Charles, Ken Wood & Jack West won the team prize in the National 12 hour time trial.

These 3 riders amassed a total of 780.05 miles. This was then an all time record that stood until 1967.

Between 1981 and 2002 the club promoted over 25 road races on the Bishopdyke Wood circuit. Between 1976 and 1993 the club promoted 16 cyclo cross events on Brayton Barff. Over a similar period 10 mile open time trials were promoted, firstly on the A63 and then later on the A19, until road alterations and traffic increases made them untenable.

Evening club time trials have been promoted in the summer every year since 1980 except for 2008.

In more recent years members have not been involved in competition as much, but have increased participation in organised sportive rides, some having 2000 participants!.
